I'd like to use up leftover spiral sliced ham in split pea soup. Is it possible to do this as an E soup, or would it be a crossover? I wondered about simmering the ham/bone in water, then cooling it to remove fat--if that would help keep it E.

great idea about simmering and removing the fat! i had split pea without the ham the other day, but i love the ham, so i'll use your idea next time. our pork is quite lean as we raise it on rotated pasture, but even if it was fatty i'm sure the simmering would pull most of it out for easy skimming.
