I am 58 and have been following the plan for almost 2 months. I have lost about 10 pounds which seems really slow for me but it is not hard work to follow the plan so I guess I just need to be patient and enjoy the ride The scale drives me crazy as I am up a pound ,down a pound over and over throughout the week but the bottom line is dropping. I am gluten intolerant , and have many manifestations of metabolic syndrome so I guess my metabolism has a lot of healing to do. I have way more energy than I used to have and I think I am losing inches but I did not measure when I started so I don't know for sure, my clothes are definitely fitting looser. I have a question, don't know if anyone can answer it, but I use a green drink powder called Barleylife every day. It says on the container that there are 4gms of carbs per tsp., I take a tablespoon as a serving. Does that mean I can only drink it in an E setting. would breaking it up into 3 tsp. 3 different times a day be a better way to get it in? Am enjoying all you comments, it's nice to know that even when we hit that age where it's"difficult to lose weight" we can still snail our way down the scale. 4 gm of carb is under the 10 gm carb limit for S or FP meals so it should work to use 1 tsp 3x/day to keep your fuels from Crossover territory. I am not familiar with Barleylife so I am answering assuming the ingredients are on plan. You could of course drink the full Tbsp in an E setting. 10 lbs in 2 months is a great loss at a very healthy rate, you're doing great

Hello! I am 49 (50 in August), and I have been doing THM for a year. I FINALLY understand the dynamics of eating properly and how we are designed to eat/process food. I am 5'1" so extra weight on me is very obvious because I am so short. I'm Italian and was always chubby as a little girl/young adult. I am not 'skinny' by any means, but I am happy to say I have finally gotten to fit in a size 2 to 4. It took almost 49 years!!!! UGH!!! BUT THANK YOU TRIM HEALTHY MAMAS for helping me get here!! As I have gotten older, the belly fat seems to creep on MUCH more easily! THM has helped me tremendously to keep it manageable. I have found that this particular way of eating seems to make the most sense and it is definitely SIMPLE!! HOORAY! I travel and live in hotels 3 days a week and I can still do it! I bring all of my food for 3 days so I NEED simple!! I hope this encourages all you 'older' gals out there. It's NEVER too late start feeling better and being more healthy.

I am so happy to have found FHM, I have low carbed for years and lost a ton and gained it all back this year. I am 59 in June, love to cook and am so excited that this has worked for older women. I don't have the book yet but I am trying to start today. Thirty pounds to go, I'll let you know, if I can lose weight this way, anyone can.

Welcome capecodmama I hope you can get your book soon to help you totally understand the plan and the whys and hows of it all. Some ladies are having good luck getting it through the library or inter-library loan.

I am 58 and still reading the book. My whole family is gluten intolerant. Some of us have been grain and dairy free for a couple of years, so the E meals will be quite a change for us. We have been having energy issues-even my teenage sons. Blood sugar issues cropping up too, in them and me. I have been all the ladies in Chapter 1 through the years. Currently Farm Fresh Tess. Honestly, I reluctantly bought the book a couple months ago, at a friend's insistence, but just started reading it this week. I felt like I had read it all, done it all, failed at all. Hard to face another try. I would like to lose nearly 100 pounds, but would be happy to lose 45. I just ordered some of the unusual foods last night, including Chana Dahl, glucomannan, whey and stevia. It really helps to understand how the body processes food. It makes more sense to me now. Dare I be cautiously optimistic? I'm off to buy low-fat food for the first time in years. I would love me some low fat cottage cheese! Hoping for the best!
Question: my first recipe try was cake in a mug, but all I had was a bitter stevia (not the recommended brands). It tasted terrible and upset my stomach. Anybody know if the sweeter stevia is easier to digest?

Welcome I am not sure if it will be easier to digest but one tricky thing about stevia is making sure you don't use too much, there is a fine balance of not sweet enough and bitter, but yes brand do vary greatly for taste as well. Another thing is sometimes our taste buds need a little time to change from being used to sugar and going to stevia some mamas struggle a little. Some don't at all, but some stick to berries and not many desserts for a little while.

I'm also 66 and I'm struggling to really understand it enough to put it to practice. It's very complicated to me and hard for me to learn, I've spent several hours everyday of this week and last week and I still can't figure out how I'm going to have time to relearn how to cook. Like its contrary to my knowledge to buy and consume low fat or fat free products. They are junk food and have bad things in them to make up for the fat. It just isn't coming naturally for me. Meanwhile I'm eating poorly out of frustration and gaining weight!

Welcome waneska I hope we can help you understand the plan more fully. You do not have to have to use items you are not comfortable with on Trim Healthy Mama, although some items give you more flexibility. On brand that has low-fat items that seems easy to find is Daisy. They make a 2% cottage cheese you can use in E meals. Another fat free item without additives is 0% Greek yogurt, there are several brands some favorites are Kirkland (Costco's) and Fage. Have you tried recipes from the book? Sometimes it is easy to adjust what you normally eat and just separate the fuel sources. If you would like to give some examples of favorite meals we could help to see how they fit the plan.

Hello! I am 62 and have read through the book once and started dinking around with the plan early in the year. I would lose a few pounds then go off plan and gain it back. *sigh* A few months back I told my oldest daughter(38) that she looked like she had lost a fair amount of weight and she said happily that she had been creating a healthier lifestyle using THM! We laughed that we were both going down the same path unbeknownst to each other(well my daughter anyway, I have just been visiting). After hurting my knee, because of my obesity, I have decided to quit visiting the plan and move in. I need to lose 55 lbs. and WILL. It is such a simple concept and I really appreciate all the work and research that Pearl and Serene have done. Until I can get consistent I hope to ask you all for support and guidance. Thank You!

I am 64...just beginning. There's so much to learn, I don't know where to begin. Can't imagine getting down to 140 again. I have 50 lbs. to lose. I find the process hard to understand...S and E and the time between carbs and proteins. My daughter and friend tried to explain it to me but I am still confused so I am only eating protein and veggies until I understand. I have lost 10 lb. so I do want to keep on. I have a hard time reading diet books, having done it so many times. I wish there were just a simple, basic 2 paragraph (or even one!) explanation. Sigh. I'll just have to sit down and apply myself.

Welcome mandy140. A really boiled down version would be: protein + S fuel (fats) + non-starchy veggies= S meal 96% or higher lean protein + E fuel (on plan carbohydrates) + veggies = E meal I would suggest looking through the recipes and picking some to create a menu, since in the book they are labeled which fuel they are and eating them three hours apart. Keep referencing the lists at the end of the S and E chapters to see if an item is better in an S setting or E or works in either. Please feel free to ask lots of questions until you understand, that is what we are here for

I'm 61 and been yo yoing for at least 30 years...As I got older it was harder and harder to lose weight and I even went on diets that had worked in the past with no losses, the second time around. This summary is great and I know next week, when I get the book, I will need to go shopping again, but for today's shopping...this is so helpful.

Hello - I'm new also and in my 50's. I've recently lost some weight on Medifast as I can't seem to lose weight with any other program but I'm so uncomfortable with the ingredients and my weight loss has slowed way down. I've had the THM E-book and am trying it out during a break from Medifast. I had to take a break as I was getting so frustrated and scared about the ingredients.
I hope I don't gain weight just trying out THM -- I'm doing some S and the E includes grain which has been a problem for me. I maybe will just try the quinoa to see how I do with that. The book is hard to manage in the Ebook form.
Any suggestions and support would be helpful.
