Hi all, just started on the forum. I am deep in the book, and came across Truvia, as an ingredient. I looked it up to see what an Australian equivalent would be, and came across this information; www.dietitiancassie.com/the-truth-on-truvia/Seems to be a ingredient that is only masquerading as healthy! Cheers, Helgaanne

You can use stevia instead, some recipes need the bulk sweetener to turn out properly. I make my own "Truvia" with non-GMO erythritol and stevia and use that on occasion for those type recipes. Welcome

Welcome Hi! What are the proportions of this...half and half? Also, what do you think about the sweetener: Lakanto?( bodyecology.com/sugar-substitute-lakanto-sweetener.html#sthash.is9Na99f.dpbs)

There is a recipe, I will see if I can find it here on the boards. It doesn't take much of the stevia extract at all. I have made a little for a few recipes that needed the bulk of the erythritol, but mainly I just use the extract. It takes so little to sweeten it is very cost effective

I am not at all familiar with Lakanto, I like stevia so I haven't really looked beyond that.

Hi Steffanie! Do you have a favorite brand of stevia? did it take you a little while to get used to it? Do you like eryithrtol? (can't spell that one!) Thank you for your time!

I am using NuNaturals, but I bought it before they reformulated it (a pound container). I think I will try KAL when it runs out, but that will be a really long while, probably six months to a year. I had been using different stevias for quite sometime and liked them so it didn't take me long to adjust. I do like erythritol for recipes that need the bulk, sometimes things that need baked need it I do prefer it powdered it seems to have less of the "cooling" effect that way in things that aren't baked.

The information about Truvia is very interesting. I have given Truvia a try for a couple of weeks now. And I do NOT like it. Plus it gives me a stomach ache. I was thinking it was the erythritol. Do you think I would have the same problem with pure stevia? Any suggestions on where to get it? One thing I would like to point out though. My box of Truvia lists Stevia Leaf Extract as an ingredient, not Rebiana... Amy

I've made the Skinny Chocolates for the first time using Truvia, and after eating only a small piece (I used a small-cavity silicon candy mold), I have tummy rumbles and a very loose bowel movement. This happens every time I eat a piece, Could this be the Truvia? I remember years ago when I was on the Atkins diet, his name brand chocolates did the same thing.
If Truvia is the culprit, what can I substitute? I have an order for erythritol and stevia coming soon -- have I wasted my money?? Help!

Xylitol. Any comments on xylitol. It is another alcohol sugar made of fermented hard woods such as birch. It has no impact on blood sugar. It also decreases bacteria in the mouth and is known to be Good for teeth. Actually Good as in you can buy toothpaste made of it. Of course it costs a fortune. I use it over truvia if I ever need bulking. Sometimes I add a bit into smoothies for the good teeth thing. Interested if anyone has feedback about Xylitol.

Xylitol and Truvia are both plan approved, but some people have trouble with them. They are completely fine for some, but not everyone. A pure stevia extract powder is the most pure option, and does not cause these issues.

I love xylitol! Our dentist told us about it & after researching it a bit we have added it to our pantry as an alternate sweetener. I still use stevia most of the time b/c it's easier on the budget but for special treats xylitol makes my kids happy. I read that digestive upset from xylitol use indicates an imbalanced gut. We have not had any problems using it & we love the taste.

After reading the above posts I find that it is all very confusing.
