Hello,
I am brand new to THM (pseudo-started this week) and am trying to understand how to properly implement the plan.
I think I understand the basics of the S and E meals, but I am a little confused about snacks, which are important to my family and me.
It seems tricky to plan snacks if we only are allowed to eat them 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 hours after a meal (did I read that in the book or see that on the forums/Facebook?). Usually, that is when my family is ready for an actual meal (at least for lunch around here). If a snack is eaten at 3 1/2 hrs then mealtime is in an hour or two (as in the case of dinner around here sometimes), must that snack then be counted toward the next meal?
Also, it seems complicated to always be thinking about switching fuels for the snack to go with the next meal. Therefore FP snacks seem to make more sense to me. But the book says to only do FP snacks and meals occasionally? Did I read that FP snack should also be spaced like other snacks?!
Thanks for your help. I really want to be successful with this!

FP snacks are great, FP meals on occasion You want to eat regularly to keep your metabolism going, but also giving some time between eating to give your digestive system a rest. It will become more natural as you think about your next meal or snack. Some people find menu planning very helpful, so they can have that advance notice of switching fuels.

If you are not pregnanct or nursing, it is best to *try* to wait 2.5-3 hrs between snacks and meals. Try to eat to satisfaction at your meals so they hold you better, and remember your protein, around 20 grams is a good goal. If you find yourself really hungry sooner than the 2.5-3 hr mark, try a FP snack, like the Fat Stripping Frappe. You could also try a FP drink like the Shrinker or Singing Canary, as sometimes it is just our bodies wanting 'mouth action' (for lack of a better term), or we are actually thirsty rather than hungry.

I'm new to the forum and trying to find my way around. I don't think I eat enough...therefore I need really easy (store bought) snacks to take with me. I travel and I'm busy in nursing home facilities t/o the day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are some great suggestions at the end of the Snacks chapter, page 407 is the start. A lunchbox size cooler will give you great flexibility if you can take one. I personally really like hard boiled eggs for a good portable protein, with a small salt shaker you can have a nice snack or a few in part of meal and you could either a lot of them ahead of time or buy them pre-hard boiled and peeled I have seen little snack packs, I think they are called P3, near the Lunchable type snacks at the grocery, they have protein snacks like lunchmeat, nuts, and cheese in a little container. Grocery stores can be great for on the go snacks with prepped veggies or berry cups or even a light string cheese and an apple. You definitely want to eat enough and optimally every three hours to keep your body well fueled.

I work full time and am having a hard time with the time schedule between lunch and dinner. I eat lunch at 11:15 I get off work at 3:30 and my family is ready for dinner by 4:30, and frankly so am I. If I am done eating at 11:40ish if I wait the 3 hours and have a snack then wait another 3hrs that will be 5:40 for dinner, if I make my family wait until 5:30 or 6:00 to eat they will shoot me. Since I want to live is it ok to have an FP snack around 2:00 (2hrs 20min after lunch) then dinner at 4:15-4:30 (2hrs 20 min after FP snack)?

I am confusing myself. If someone could just clarify for me?
Laughing cow cheese and apple - E? Laughing cow cheese and swiss bread - FP?
Thank you!

Yes and Yes. Its always about ingredients. And then you check the numbers to see if they fit FP or not.
