Hi all,
I tweaked my exercise regime a few weeks ago to align with the advice in THM and elsewhere. Now instead of working out 45-60 minutes each morning, I am breaking each video workout down into 3 or so sections of about 15-20 minutes at a time throughout the day.
My questions include: what about warmups and cooldowns? I always start the first workout with a TTapp primary back stretch but I don't want to repeat it every time as that adds about 3 minutes onto the front of each session. I don't cooldown and stretch much after each session either, as that would add another 5 minutes onto the end. I do notice that not warming up slowly does make my workout more challenging, especially until I get farther into it. I do know that is to be expected but am surprised that it's "good for me."
Secondly, I don't know what to think about the idea that sustained effort/activity is damaging. I farm and garden and often spend many hours at a time working hard, especially in the spring and summer. I can't change that, and am not sure I would if I could. Is it really bad for us? Seems like the way God designed life to be. Granted, my heart rate is not way up there during most of my work times. But it doesn't go any higher doing TTapp. 3-4 times/week I do a higher intensity program which includes weights, aerobics and stepping up on a box, etc. which does really get my heart beating fast.
My sweet hubby got me a Fitbit for Christmas and I regularly hit 10,000 steps in a day and often 12,000+, and that's with the busy season not even started yet. But I know if I drop my high-intensity workouts I will lose muscle strength. I tried it a couple years ago for a month and the difference of what I could lift and how many reps I could do was striking. I would hate to cut back because I know I will be weaker and less fit and therefore less able to do my necessary work.
So, what do you think? How important are the warmups and cooldowns? Am I hurting myself by too much sustained energy-output?
In case it matters, I am 54 years old, 5 foot 3 and weigh about 113 pounds; and I haven't lost much, if any, eating THM for the past month. I have so far noticed no difference from the change in the way I'm exercising.
It'd be nice if there was a dedicated exercise section on the forum, but I sure hope enough people are interested that I'll get some feedback. Thanks so much!
