Is the new cookbook (the stand alone one) as good as the one in the old book? Does it carry most of the recipes? I'm thinking of ordering.
Thanks for your help!

Oh, the new one is sooo much more.I love it! We eat almost exclusively from it. Even the kids love everything. Just about every recipie has been a hit. It's an absolute must in my opinion. It's got tons of pictures too. There's very few repeats from the original book.

I ordered both (or all 3 depending on perspective). I have found many fabulous recipes in the old book that are simply not in the new book (Kickin Kefir Elixir, Cake in a Bowl---which they call a muffin, but it's HUGE---Mashed Cauli-Fotatoes and at least 6 more that I can't remember just now). And, there are also scads of favourites in the new book. For the sake of downsizing the recipe book area in my house, I am typing out the favourites from the old book and putting them in my binder with my converted old recipes (and the entire lot reorganised to match the order of the new THM book).
So, I think that if you are undecided, you should get both cookbooks. There is also some more info in the old combo book about S, E and FP desserts and when to eat them that I didn't encounter in the new Plan book. A friend of mine ordered just the new books and I have had to fill in some of the missing info for her from the old book.

Thank you grassy! I should do the same with my original book. Are you typing ALL the recipes from the original book? I would love a copy! I find the format of those recipes very hard to follow. I would like to get back into using those recipes more because it keeps the grocery budget more simple. I've been on THM for just over 3 1/2 years and it's only in the last while that I've realized I would enjoy keeping the plan more simple for myself. I think I often eat too much and too often. One reason being I've been pregnant and/or nursing the entire 3 1/2 years. In the first 7 months I lost 50 pounds. Since then I've climbed back up to my original starting weight and with the pregnancies and nursing time I just have a hard time figuring out what my body needs so that I can lose weight and still keep healthy in these stages.

If you happen to be membership site members, all the old recipes are on it with a print feature. From the new book, it's just the ingredients, so you can use the meal planner and shopping list feature, as it's not self published like the first book, so they aren't able to put the full recipes.

BBM: *I* am not a paying member. The rest of your answer I don't understand. Like, 'it's just the ingredients from the new book.' What is just the ingredients from the new book? I don't use any of the meal planners or shopping list. And, if they aren't able to put the full recipes, why would I go there?
SSQ: I am NOT typing out all the recipes from the old book---only the ones I am particularly fond of. So, like, all that rolled oats for breakfast that has been adulterated with sweetener and other gawdawful things---no. Weird and new ways to use vegetables that I hate that actually makes the vegetables taste good---yes. (I've hated cauliflower since I was 7---the first time I had it.)

There's TONS of full recipies. Recipies submitted by bloggers and THM users. All the recipies from the original book. New recipies added by a Serene and Pearl. Only the recipies from the new cookbook have ingredients only listed, per the publisher's rules, when you click on the recipie. That's so you can use the meal planner. The meal planner is my favourite feature. I drag and drop my meals into the planner, hit shopping list, click off the items I have and the shopping list is ready! Nicely divided by isle too. Most recipies have pictures too. Plus you can ask questions underneath if you need clarification. There's videos with FAQ, Serene and Pearl making lots of different recipies, and health talks. There's a forum where Serene and Pearl answer your questions and you connect with other THMers. It's really great! So much more than just recipies. But if ALL you're looking for is recipies from the new cook book, then it wouldn't be worth it.

Why, just today I learned that there is a Cabbage Roll recipe. I had already searched my new book and didn't find it. Then, I decided to look at Evening Meals in the old book, one recipe at a time, and voilĂ there it was on page 312. This is great! Now, I don't have to track down a recipe online and convert it. The work has already been done. And, no, none of my current cookbooks that I am slowly working through to convert to THM has Cabbage Rolls.
I use a bingo cage with balls for meal planning and have for a few years now. Takes the thinking part out of it. So, let's say that ball . . . oh, I dunno "25" comes down the chute. I look up my list to see what meal is on line 25. I do this the day before in case I need to defrost anything. Both the baked beans recipes take 2 days because the beans have to soak overnight first prior to cooking (which takes 1 1/2 hours plus the baking in the oven which is another 2 1/2 hours). So, those might not get served immediately next---and here is where I make stuff up. We currently have a ton of cabbage from the CSA share that I bought. Mostly, I am making meals that have cabbage in them or have cabbage as the star ingredient. Hence my glee at finding a Cabbage Roll recipe that is "on plan."
I have purchased the old book. I also purchased the new book and the plan book. I have all 3 books. And, I will be typing out the Cabbage Rolls recipe from the old book to put in my binder with the others and the converted recipes. I'm not anywhere near done with that project.
