Does anyone have experiences with using straight xylitol? I have went back and forth with using it for a long time. I know it's sugar alcohol and I thought I read bad stuff about that. I have PCOS too and thought I read somewhere that you should only use natural sweeteners like honey, pure maple syrup (we tap our own), molasses, etc and stay away from the sugar alcohols. I know you can easily over do these, one of the reasons I just use fruit to sweeten or go without. Sometimes I wish I could have things sweeter, but most of the time it's fine. I was just curious if anyone knew anything about this. Thanks ladies! PS: I also read that we should use agave nectar, but I KNOW I read bad stuff about that and do not want to use it.

Yes, you can use xylitol on plan. I don't think it is preferred for as much use as erythritol. Because it does raise some people's blood sugar slightly. It is not a 0 in the glycemic index but still very low . Of course you know that honey and maple syrup are not recommended on plan of you are trying to lose weight. But you can't have stevia, right? That's gotta be tough..

Ok, thank you. What about it being a sugar alcohol?
I thought I read in the new book that small amounts of honey are ok? Yes, no stevia. And I don't really like the taste anyway. Plus I'm skeptical about it too with all the controversy on it.

Been trying to do my research, and I'm finding so much conflict! UGH!! I found these www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/xylitol-not-as-sweet-as-its-cracked-up-to-be/ draxe.com/xylitol-side-effects/And that kind of scared me, but what about if I only use it once in awhile for brownies, cakes, etc? And only use a tablespoon or less? I don't want them too sweet. I don't have those very often anyway....so confused. I would prefer to use honey, but also prefer to use it raw and when you bake with it of course it isn't raw anymore. PS: We do have non GMO stuff too

I trust the sisters research. I've been using stevia for years. THM stevia tastes like do other! I can lick it off my finger and it's not gross. Too much tastes too sweet, not gross like other brands. But you have to do what you're confortable with.
Small amounts of honey and maple syrup are best left for children and those at goal weight.

ok, thank you so much. I think I'm close enough to goal weight that it should be ok. I'm only 5 pounds away!!
