I just found a 1lb bag of flax seeds for 2.99 at a store I had a gift certificate for. For some reason I am thinking chia seeds and flax seeds are the same thing, am I right?

Okay, I think I answered my own question and they are not the same. So, in the recipes that call for Chia seeds, can I substitute Flax seeds?
Thanks.

I don't think so. Chia soaks up a lot of liquid and becomes jelly-like in consistency and most recipes using it will be wanting that effect. Flax doesn't do that.

Ok, thanks. I wonder if I should hang on to this bag of flax seeds or return them to the store, hmm?

I'd keep it if you have a way to grind it up. Coffee grinders work well. It's a superfood and the book recipes use flax meal quite a bit.
