I've never heard of Moong dal before but after researching a bit it looks like it is lower in carbs than even chana dal (although I am not sure about the GI or affect of blood sugar). They should work in an E meal, no problem but they are different. Just for your info this is what I've found on Moong dal vs Chana dal:
If the dried yellow split peas are round, they're "chana dal". Moong dal is smaller and more oval-shaped
moong dal Notes: These are mung beans that have been skinned and split, so that they're flat, yellow, and quick-cooking. They're relatively easy to digest. Substitutes: split peas
channa dal = chana dal = gram dal Notes: With their sweet and nutty flavor, these are the most popular dal in India. They're made from splitting a small relative of the chickpea in half. They're a dull yellow and are renown for causing flatulence, which Indians try to counter by adding asafoetida to the dish. Substitutes: toor dal (a bit smaller, but similar) OR yellow split peas OR garbanzo beans

Thank you for the info - I would love to use the Moong Dal, as it's locally available, tasty, very versatile, and glad it fits into an E meal.

No, Moong Dal is Mung beans. chana Dal is baby split garbanzo beans. I read you can find them in an Indian stores. They were not in my local Asian store, all they had were the Moong Dal beans.
