I am looking at the chapter Jump Right In, Mama. I would like to incorporate kettle balls into my life, have never used them. After reading the specific suggestions in the book, I still wonder which DVD to order and what size kettle ball to start with. Also, a couple of the websites they gave in the book were not there. Any suggestions appreciated. I already go to a gym and take Zumba classes and do the weight machines, but learning this new info I'd like to incorporate Serene and Pearl's ideas.

An easy way to make your own kettle bells is to use gallon milk jugs. Fill them with water. If you fill the whole thing, it will weigh slightly more than 8 pounds. Just be sure to keep the cap screwed on tight....this is a great way to see if you will like doing them. When I did buy some, I found mine very cheaply at Ross. I got a 5 lb one and an 8 lb one. I find that 8 lbs is more than enough for me. It doesn't sound like much, but it can really get your heart rate up. I don't do any special videos, although there are tons of free ones online. I basically use them for squats, and (---> link to thread) Tabatas. HTH!

I wonder if your gym has some kettlebells that you could swing a bit or ask an employee for advice. If you are are fairly used to weight and working out a 8 to start is probably a great recommendation, you might be able to even do a 10. I was not, I started with a five and it kicked my hiney

I've seen some kettlebell videos say that a dumbbell can be used in place of a kettlebell. So if you have a dumbbell you could try a few free videos online using different sizes of dumbbells until you decide on a good weight for you. Fit Yummy Mummy has a very good kettlebell workout program, it is not free but it's very good, if you are looking to purchase one.
