I'm very disappointed that my last 2 appt have seen the scale jump. At my 30 wk appt I gained 7 lbs over the 4 weeks. Now at 33 wks its another 7 lbs. I feel very frustrated. My thighs are the most gain that I notice. I've kept my meals 2 1/2-3 hours apart, drinking at least 3-4 litres a day. Very few C/O. Exercising 3 days a wk.
This puts me at almost 50 lb gain. I have not gained that much in my last 4 pregnancies. My gains were very little until 25 wks.
I don't know what my next 'move' should be. I feel very let down. I'm going to pray and prioritize and try to refocus. This can't keep going for my last 6 wks.
I'm not on Facebook so I can't find out from there if others experienced this and how they handled it. Anyone have advice? Experience? Hindsight?

Susieq, I don't know! I know my weight gain has also been more than I had hoped. But, even at that, it is still less at 30 pounds than it has probably ever been before. And I think it would probably have been less if I hadn't gone to Missouri and cheated for about a month! (Still no gluten or sugar!) I will still be lighter at the end of this pregnancy than I was the one before. By the way, I have also gained 8-10 pounds in this last couple of weeks. But I try to take in consideration that I have been drinking a lot. I think I'm starting to fill out for nursing. My weight gain seems to come in spurts. I think some of it depends on bowel function. Which can be totally due to hormones! I feel great! I think I notice also that I gain quicker when I'm stressed. Or don't eat enough! And I think it's got something to do with blood sugar, too. This is still a learning process, and I'm still learning to listen to my body.... I imagine you do feel pretty frustrated. Have you checked your blood sugars, etc.? Do you think your body needs crossovers or S helpers and is putting you in starvation mode? You know, at the least, the healthy whole foods are good for you.... And not having sugars. It sounds like your body has been dealing with a lot, with the e-coli, plus pregnancy. I'm looking forward to getting my little one here, and I know you are, too! Hopefully the weight will drop quickly after!

Susieq, would you be able to post several days of menus to see if maybe someone had suggestions for you?

susieq, did you start your pregnancy at goal weight? How about with your other pregnancies?

I started this pregnancy lighter than all my others except my first. I was probably around 180 lbs starting my first pregnancy. I was not at goal weight either. I started this pregnancy at 182. My goal is about 150-160. I don't have very many glucose strips left so I have not been checking sugars now. I've been drinking 3-4 litres fluids a day. I do feel like I'm getting my milk department ready. bowel function has not been as good as it used to. Usually when I get signals of hunger, I have to 'go'. I like that routine so I know I'm truly hungry, but that has not been happening for a few months. I will start posting my days menu here and I'm switching up how and when I'm eating. It will be a bit different than usual because we ran out of meat and it might be a while till we can afford it. Eggs, kefir, and whey protein powder will have to be my protein sources along with grains and legumes.

Also, you mentioned a weight gain of 50 pounds? I would for sure talk to your midwife/ doctor and see what she/ they think....

Your meals look pretty good as far as the plan, the only suggestion might be to swing those FPs to E or S or even a crossover on occasion.
Did your provider seem concerned about the weight gain? I agree with getting their opinion for sure.

My midwife says I'm still within my weight range in her chart. She's not concerned. I'm going to do my weight and measurements tomorrow morning. I've been too afraid of the results to do it at home every week like I had been doing.

I am curious about what kind of kefir and protein powder you are using, would you mind sharing that as well?

Cow milk kefir, cream removed. I usually culture it 24 hrs. Swanson vanilla whey protein powder, the one recommended. How many 'S' Helpers should I try to do in my day? I feel like I'm eating lots of food and a decent variety, but if my body needs S Helpers and crossovers I'm wondering how many I should do. I'm using mostly pure stevia. Xylitol about 1 or 2 times a week. I've been exercising 3 days/wk. this week not at all, I've hit an extra tired phase. This usually happens after 3 weeks of early mornings and exercising. It usually takes 1 week for me to regroup and then I start a more disciplined schedule again. It feels so strange to feel so lost and not sure what is happening. As far as my bladder infection/ E.coli overgrowth I'm feeling much better. I had been experiencing some pain, but after much prayer and asking God to heal me I have not had any more pain. I do feel like God has healed me, or at least in the healing stages. It seems like my midwife only wants antibiotics and tests, she is not encouraging about natural alternatives or herbs. I would be ok testing enzymes, blood, and urine, but not glucose tests or extra doctor consults. Maybe there's something else 'off'. I'm hoping I can figure out how diet is playing into this and see how S Helpers will do for me. I've usually been very healthy and strong. I'm determined to do what needs to be done and not give up (that will only make matters worse). I'm just stumped and my high expectations got nearly deflated. Thank you all for your input. If there's anything else please speak up.

I am thinking your FP are E (depending on fat content), storebought low-fat cow milk kefir is E, goat milk kefir is S. Yay on the protein powder I don't know that you need Crossovers or S helpers, it is hard to know if someone else does or not, it has a lot to do with how you feel. When I was extra hungry or tired I would adjust what I was eating to add a Crossover or S helper so I could make it to 2.5 or 3 hours to eat next. I would limit FP to maybe one a day, since you don't really want to "pull the fuel" while growing a babe or nursing. Good to hear that you feel your E. coli is getting better There maybe be something else off since you are dealing with an infection, but finding that may be difficult for you without the help of the midwife or care provider.

Here is an interesting Pearl quote about kefir Yours maybe FP (still depending on fat content and length of ferment) Pearl - "Store bought low fat kefir is E because it is not as sour as most home made kefir. Skim milk made into kefir at home and fermented until sour can be used for S, E or even FP sometimes. Serene does a double ferment to make sure most of the milk sugars are eaten up."

I was wondering if the carbs in kefir would put it in E setting. I will treat it as an E then. So I will have been S Helping and maybe C/O for about 3 weeks already. I get farm fresh milk and skim the cream off. Thanks for that info.

So what is a double ferment? My kefir is usually a bit thick and smells good and strong. There is clear separation of whey before I strain it. Then it takes about 1 1/2 days till its gone during which I store it in the fridge. I make a fresh 2 quarts nearly every day.
