Did you ever try the Healing Trimmy recipe? It is a wonderful, health promoting way to cream your coffee and it makes you want to go... "Ahhhh" with every sip. This article and recipe from Serene was featured in the second edition of our Trim Healthy Living Ezine - Enjoy:
"As a purist, I had a hard time with putting pasteurized cream in my coffee. Then Trimmaccino began frothing up my morning with creamy decadent "coffee innocence" and all was well. Lately I have simplified things up a bit and swirled two of my most favorite super foods into my mug. Our Trimmaccino recipe got the nickname of Trimmy so I call this latest version… Healing Trimmy!
The original Trimmaccino is still a keeper but this version is great for a change up. Cream up your morning hot coffee, your Roobios Chai mid-afternoon and your hot chocolate in the evening with this method - sheer delight! Pearl.. your coffee better go hide... this stuff is the gourmet "foodie" dream drink!
Healing Trimmy
Ingredients:
1 tsp. MCT oil (for light version) or 1 Tbs. MCT oil (for rich version)
1-2 Tbs. grass fed gelatin
Directions:
Add ingredients to your mug of hot coffee or tea
Whiz up with a hand held immersion blend for a few seconds or use a blender (going with your manufacturer’s instructions for hot liquids)
The best thing about it is that it has a silky mouth feel like no other and does not make your coffee taste like a Hawaiian sun tan lotion from Coconut oil. I love coconut oil and still include lots of it in my diet – but MCT brings some other incredible health benefits to my table.
Since this post is to my purist peeps, I am sure I am preaching to the choir now when I sing the praises of grass fed gelatin. Many of us food purists are more crazy for bones than our pet dogs are and have a kitchen full of stock pots to leach the precious nutrition from bones. We also love to have powdered gelatin handy for times when we don't want a meaty taste lurking on the taste buds. Let's sing together an ode to gelatin......
You make my coffee dreamy
You heal my gut of "leaky"
(Badly done... but gelatin does help heal leaky gut syndrome. It is healing to the lining of the stomach and digestive tract and helps bring relief from food allergies and intolerances)
You take away my wrinkles
Even some cellulite dimples
(Still not feeling any rhythm here... but this is no joke... I'm seeing a bit of improvement in my skin. Gelatin improves skins elasticity and is essentially edible collagen. It also increases weight loss and the production of human growth hormone which boosts metabolism).
You’re an anti-inflammatory pain reliever
You get rid of toxins and are a liver cleaner
(No I'm not feelin it... rhythm is way off. I’m going to spare you any more poetry pain and just list a few more benefits by bullet point... but gelatin is abundant in glycine which aids in efficient liver detoxing.)
*Gelatin boasts half of the 18 essential amino acids needed for survival. although not a complete protein, it packs a powerful punch of 9 grams per Tbs. and helps your body absorb other proteins more completely. When our diets consist of protein from only muscle meat the body can be triggered into perceiving the stress signal of catabolism where the amino acid profile in our blood is that of our breaking down muscles. It is important to bring a healthy balance to our protein intake by including meat cooked on the bone, stock or to supplement with gelatin powder.
*Gelatin helps prevent the degeneration of cartilage in our joints and speeds up wound healing. I like to double up on it pre, during and post pregnancy to keep me and the little bub all "shore up" with what we need. I believe anyone trying to heal a diastasis recti (abdominal muscle separation) would benefit along with therapeutic exercise from the collagen boosting and wound healing power of gelatin. Gelatin helps rebuild tissue....Yay!!
*It is rich in the strong protein keratin, helping to beautify hair nails and teeth.
*One of the best attributes of gelatin besides the fact that it makes an awesome Trimmaccino is that it is a powerful sleep aid. It works when you need a good night sleep but in the day it helps with better cognitive functioning and helps beat day time drowsiness.
We have sourced a wonderful clean source of gelatin (beef collagen peptides) which we hope to launch soon. In the meantime the Great Lakes brand is a great source for this. The green can that is the hydrolyzed form dissolves instantly and won't set "jelly like" when cold. This hydrolyzed version is also absorbed much more easily and quickly by the body because it has a lower molecular structure.. It is more expensive and this is a problem as I really go through a lot of gelatin. The way I work gelatin into my budget is by purchasing a little of the “green” from Great Lakes. But the bulk of my family’s gelatin I get from Now foods. Three cheers for homemade gummy worms and it is great in all my chilis and soups. It will thicken if you coffee cools but I keep my coffee hot always in an insulated mug. I buy 10 pounds at a time in two 5# tubs. It is processed on the same manner as Great Lakes and is a 100% pure beef product, meaning no pork is lurking in any precious granule. It may not be grass fed but it allows me to use it generously for everyone in my large family and that makes it a win win.
Go grab yourself a gelatin fix!
