I've been wanting to try my hand at making my own kefir, but in the book, it says I need kefir grains....what is that? Like, actual grains? I looked it up online and looks like a pile of tapioca mush. Also, where can I buy it?
One more thing....I'm going out this weekend with friends for a small vacation together, and I need ideas for snack bars/balls/etc that will hold up well at room temperature (not sure where I'll be storing them). I was going to try making Basic Treat Squares, if anyone has made those before.

I think you can get dry keifer grains from a health food store. I did awhile back, but I haven't used them yet! Hope I still have them...
I have made the basic treat squares. I really liked them!

Not sure about room temperature, though... They might get a bit soft.

You can also get kefir grains (they do kind of look like adjoined tapioca) from someone local who makes kefir if you happen to know someone they will usually share as they multiply and grow
