I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but every time I make any of the recipes that involve pureeing okra and then sonsuming it without cooking it, like Secret Big Boys, or Thin Thicks, they taste really strange and I get a burning sensation in my mouth. I don't normally react to okra this way when I eat it cooked. I'm wondering if it has something to do with grinding up the seeds, that maybe I'm allergic to something inside the seed coat that doesn't cause problems when the seeds are while. It also seems to be worse when using fresh okra instead of frozen. Has anyone else had anything like this happen?

On Facebook I've heard people complaining about fresh okra tasting like that. My friend said it tasted like big spray. It seems to be more common with fresh and varies from brand, bag, etc with frozen. I personally don't care for it, but I'm trying! I put mint in with it to taste better.

I would interpret that as a reaction to fresh okra, because its not just taste but you are getting a physical reaction.
Its possible to to be fine with something cooked but not raw, and also the converse. Even cooking methods can sometimes make a difference.
For instance I'm fine with rye if its soured, but I react if its just regular flour.

I've been wondering if okra is a food that should be cooked to have the proper benefits? Is it common to eat it raw? Or is that just part of the raw food movement?

I do think it's some sort of allergy/sensitivity, since, as someone mentioned it sort of burns my mouth. Also I have other food allergies and sometimes it's only to part of the plant. For example, I can eat eggplant as long as I avoid the large seeds. I Was just curious if anyone else had this issue. It's a shame because I really to like okra and the slime doesn't even bother me.
