Wanting help with diabetic husband who has had hypo thhroidism since he was a boy. We've kinda dropped the ball a little bit more recently as he's been losing so much weight. I've studied plenty of nutrition so we knew better, but I was sorta confused why he couldn't gain weight and thought maybe the sugar and extra carbs wouldn't hurt. Anyhow, after getting really sick from pneumonia we've discovered that he now has diabetes. So my underweight husband is dealing with high blood sugar levels. I've starting cooking with the THM cookbook and feeding him as much as I can S and a few E meals. It's only been a week since we've known, but I want to make sure we're taking the best approach. The meals seem to be helping with his blood sugars, but I want to help him gain his weight back! Does anyone have any experience with diabetic weight loss and how to help them gain it back?

We can't give medical advice so it's tricky with diabetes. If I was in that situation, I'd try to add more S helpers. If those were tolerated we'll, crossovers and Es.

Just some thoughts: THM is constructed to keep blood sugar levels even. And the protein at each meal helps keep sugars from spiking, so I would have to think this way of eating would help him a lot from the stand point of making sure to have protein with everything, and observing the 3-4 hour eating window.
From my observation with family members, diabetic menus usually include small amounts of slow carbs (like no more than a 1/2 C cooked brown rice), so the S helper suggestion might be the place to start.

Thank you ladies! I'll plan as much as I can to be sure he has protein with everything. And maybe add those S helpers! Good idea. He hasent been able to go the 3 hours very easily yet, so maybe that's the boost he's needing! I have done Es and he's handling those fine. I'm making up extra of whatever I do so he has snacks if he needs them. Somehow my cooking has become more creative since I started this. I hope this trend continues!

I try to keep some superfood chews and lemon gummies made up that can be used for a protein boost. Sometimes, I just don't want to eat meat or even dairy protein, and having those on hand are helpful.

Hmmm. I'll have to look at those recipes. Haven't made either of those before-it's time to try new things though!
