Hello! I'm new to THM and working my way through the books, but trying to change things slowly as I go. I don't like breakfast and am dairy intolerant, so am limited with breakfast options. Oatmeal is fine for me, but I'm wondering about steel cut oats--are they on plan? If I had a bowl of steel cut oats with some maple flavor and stevia, is that a complete E breakfast as steel cut oats have protein as well as carbs? Should I add something? I need to lose weight so am hoping for the right balance here. Thanks for advice!

Just add 1 tsp butter, ghee, coconut oil, or mct oil to that.

If the oats hold you 3-4 hours without extra protein, you don't need to add more, since oats contain some protein. It is important to add that bit of fat. Not just for satisfaction, but to help with nutrient absorption and dulling any carb spike from the oats.
If you find you are getting hungry too early, then you could add some protein to your oatmeal breakfast.

mama4kids, I always add a couple of tablespoons of whey protein isolate when I have a bowl of oatmeal or steel cut oats or my favorite - Super Prepared Purist Grains (the fermented breakfast cereal on p. 250 of the second cookbook). This boosts your protein intake nicely. I always use a hefty amount of steel cut oats when I make my purist grains.

The purist grains made in to Creamy Grains is my absolute favorite breakfast. I love all the variations, but my current favorite is banana with a few fresh blueberries tossed in.
