Angie........I get Dr. Mercola's emails everyday, so I've read several of his articles on peak fitness. He has changed the way he now exercises after years of being a runner. He said he is more fit now than before in less time and he is older. Wow!!! I loved that the fitness info in THM agreed with all that I have been reading. It really makes sense.

I know according to the book, longer is not better, but we're visiting at my daughter's house today, and the weather was beautiful!! We put babies in jogger and walk/jogged for an hour. Very refreshing!
Finally!! I had gotten up to exercising for 45-60min (low impact aerobics and steady paced stationary bike) before reading THM. Boy, was I glad that I didn't have to keep that up, but the first time I did "sprints" on the bike I thought, "Oh my word. How will I ever sprint for 1 min." It was hard, and I was only sprinting for 20-30 seconds. But, I kept at it and today I finally managed to sprint for a full minute during the middle of the workout (which was a blessed 25 min. total), with a few 45 second sprints in there as well, in addition to the 20-30 sec. warm up sprints. Yay!!!!! And Andreahope - if you're reading, thanks. I finally got those lunges correct. Worked at the position yesterday until I managed to do them without hurting my knee. They were a workout, and I nearly lost it the first time or two until I realized that I was not holding the back foot straight (I was turning it out) and that was causing a good deal of the discomfort.
Jennifer C- I tried the 8 sprints on Jan. 1- I am still sore. The funny thing is- I figured out I only ran for about 4 minutes- the whole rest of the time, I was walking and gasping- many sore muscles! And I'm already a distance runner!! I even had some sore muscles on my upper arms from pumping them! Crazy good stuff!
With relatives still staying with us for the holidays (Australia), only managed to fit in a quick 10 minute mini-tramp workout using light hand weights. Basically just varying the way I bounce (wide stance, fast, alternating feet back and front etc.) and varying arm movements (curls, lifts, butterfly press and gentle swinging behind back to tone triceps). I love working out on my mini tramp - it is always such fun and the rebounding movement multiplies the effort as well as assists in cleaning out the lymphatic system.
I love the idea of workout of the day ideas. When I don't go to the gym, I do Leslie Sansone's walk at home (one mile intervals normally for a warm up) and then do a kettle bell workout, switching up strength training with kettle bells or doing a core workout but not the same one every day.
I think the sprints are so much fun! Sometimes I try to chase the dog or my kids for the 30 second sprints - I'm sure it isn't pretty ha, ha.
We have had lots of rain lately, so I've been doing my "sprints" indoors by doing jumping jacks and really high knee lifts as fast as possible instead of running for 30 seconds, then do dancing for my 90 second recovery. Again, probably not pretty either, but it works for me!
I took a week's break from working out - I actually missed working out! - everything was a little harder to do once I returned this week. Am thinking of doing just body weight workouts instead of weights for a few months to shake things up.
Have you heard anything about doing 15 - 20 minutes of steady state cardio (walking) after HIITs? I research so much that I can't remember where I read it, but I have been doing that sometimes. I used to love my hour walks, but get better results with shorter workouts.
JenniferC please explain about the 15-20 walking after HITs (Is that High Intensity Training?) This is all pretty new to me. I usually just run for a long time. This is much more fun- I agree with you!
Steady state cardio burns more calories per minute WHILE you are doing it, but not much later. Interval training doesn't burn as many calories per minute while you are doing it, but burns a lot more AFTER the workout. ( You could fool me on this one because I am often wiped out!!)
so by combining the two you have the best of both worlds!
this is from an email I received from a fitness site that has great info, but just uses too much profanity. I don't understand what that's about! I signed up for the emails so I wouldn't have to go back to the site, but will probably drop that soon because now I have you all at THM! much more edifying!
Lots of steady state cardio can be beneficial to health and weight loss, but not necessarily the best use of our time. I enjoy long walks, but get better weight loss from the interval training! I have only added walking 15 minutes after my sprints a couple of times and mainly because it was nice weather outside and I was having fun thinking and walking... The info makes sense though!
msjongg: Just wondering... Are rice noodles on plan?

queen: Probably a good idea to start a topic asking about it. Generally, I think they want you to use the whole grains rather than something made from brown rice flour, but maybe there's more to know about it.

queen: Got a notice that the THM website is having a big cyber-Monday sale and are offering a couple new items. They have also introduced flat rate shipping. Time to stock up on that Gentle Sweet.

marmee: One question: if I have early morning coffee with coconut oil ( or if I choose cream) are they considered a snack, should I wait 3 hours before eating? If I eat an S meal soon there after am I ok? Would that be a problem if I eat an E meal soon after?

queen: You can post here if you like. But you can start a post by entering a forum (any of the linked titles above this shouting box). Once you are in the forum, you should see a "Create Thread" link in the title bar. Click that to get a posting screen.

queen: If you eat an S meal within an hour of your oil/cream coffee, it is all considered the same meal. Otherwise, you need to wait the 3 hours.

auntchocolate: I have a question i am still confused about crossover meals how exactly do i incorporate them and how often ?
Dec 2, 2019 1:09:22 GMT -5
queen: If you are in weight loss mode, you avoid them. Maybe throw in one or two a month if you aren't losing well. It can help to shake things up and get losses started again.
