My fears are confirmed- I won't be able to use stevia. I've tried two different brands and waited between episodes and absolutely know that my body can't handle stevia. nunaturals or now brand. My heart starts racing and I feel horrible for a good while. Is there any other safe sweetener. honey in small amounts? Any suggestions ? I do have about 30 pounds to lose.

That's not good! Can you tolerate xylitol? I know it can cause diarrhea if used in large amounts, but I believe you can build up a better tolerance to it. Otherwise I'm not sure off hand...

Was it pure stevia extract that you tried from nunaturals? I know they have a different stevia powder that is often mistaken for pure extract, but actually has maltodextrin in it. This could be what is causing a bad reaction. If you're sure that it is pure stevia that you cannot tolerate, a sweetener alternative in small amounts could be coconut sugar. It is lower glycemic than most other sweeteners, but should be kept to small amounts. It does impact blood sugar levels still, but I think is better than most other options.

I realize this post is kind of old, but I am not tolerating the stevia well either.
I am wondering about using date sugar as a replacement? I need something and it can't be stevia.

Have you tried pure stevia extract? I would try that before ruling stevia out completely. Most "stevia" products have other added ingredients, and they are most likely the culprit. I have heard of a very small few who actually cannot tolerate stevia though, and if you find out this is the case, I would recommend coconut sugar rather than date sugar, as it is lower glycemic. It is not a zero calorie, super low glycemic sweetener like stevia, but it is one of your best choices after that. Use it with a bit more moderation.
