Just thought I'd post this link to an article I wrote for the July/August issue of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine Exercising CharacterIt's written for homeschoolers, but I think anyone who wants to get their children more active can benefit. I sincerely hope it helps someone. P.E. used to be the most frustrating thing for me but fitness has become our lifestyle. Nanci

I just read your article and first let me say how awesome to have an article published like that! Congratulations. Next, you have encouraged me to add more physical activity into our day. We live in the country and most of the time my children just normally get a lot of activity by doing chores, hauling hay, etc but I would like us to add some fun times in there too. We recently got a volleyball net and I'm thinking I should schedule a few times a week to play that or kickball, etc and all of us play. I know they would love it if I joined them. Thank you for the encouragement!

Thank you for your kind words! Having grown up without a love for exercise (actually a loathing!) it was so much harder to unlearn that. I can honestly say that I love exercise now, and I would miss it if it wasn't part of my day. With the national obesity epidemic, I think it's so important to find fun ways to get kids to love movement. And the more I talked to other homeschoolers, the more frustrated I found that we all were with "how to do P.E". It really doesn't have to be as hard as we make it. For me it was my bad experience with PE in school that was a stumbling block, but it's really not that hard. God created us to move! How wonderful that your children get so much exercise doing farm work!
