I really love the hummus recipe. We made it with home cooked garbanzo beans. Which makes it an S helper, I guess. I found out I loved the hummus from the store, but till T.H M. any I tried to make was gross... and I'm not picky! The recipe from the book was very good! Now I need to try it with the chana Dahl to try to keep it an S.

There are two ways to look at beans. The first is to just consider them an E food & if you pair them with a fat to consider it a Crossover. Then other way to look at it is to actually count carbs vs fat. If the carbs are under 10g & fat is over 5g you've got an S. If your carbs are between 10-15g & fat over 5g you have an S-Helper. Carbs between 15g to 45g & fat under 5g falls into E. All that to say, my guess is that the hummus is probably a Crossover but without knowing the ingredients & carb/fat per serving, it's just a guess. But a healthy Crossover, I love hummus!

I need to really get those numbers in my head... I don't like counting anything!! Lol. I'm just taking it for granted it was S helper because of the recipe in the book... But I may very well have ate a larger serving than a S helper and been in crossover.. My 19 month loves all the dips. We tried rustic eggplant today. She is so funny. She sees me with my snack of dip and raw vegies and comes running. She starts with a vegetable stick but ends up just going for dip off of fingers. :-)

I adore hummus! From what i can tell its pretty equal in fat and carbs so I think it might be considered a cross over. Is that right?

What about hummus made from eggplant and tahini? I know that the eggplant has less carbs than chickpeas. It is soooo good. I use sweet peppers to scoop it up or celery. Both are good, but I like the sweet peppers (especially the ones from the garden).

You can make it with raw zucchini or yellow squash too. I love the eggplant version, but don't always want to take the time to grill or roast it first.
