No need for self control for this one. Dive in deep. Immerse yourself in warm chocolate ripples. If you’ve ever felt guilty for giving in to chocolate cravings, here is your permission to eat to your satisfaction. It will feel like a very naughty binge yet it is in our Fuel Pull category. Oh yeah!
Remember our Hot Custard recipe we posted recently? Repeat, but add ina full Tbs. of unsweetened cocoa powder. Hershey brand is the best and Pearl likes the Special Dark kind. We need to mention something about Aldi Cocoa powder. We love so many of Aldi products for their good prices but their cocoa powder tastes horrible. None of our recipes will work with their cocoa powder.
We're calling this fondue because it is chocolatey and hot, now maybe it is not exactly like the real stuff in a restaurant but it is pretty incredible in it's own way. The right effect for this recipe is all in the details. Remember, it is not supposed to be a hot, thick pudding. It is pourable, but not too thin either, almost like egg nog consistency.
Naughty Mama Fondue
1. Bring a kettle of water to a rolling boil (or boil some water in a saucepan).
2. In a blender, put 1 flat tsp. vanilla or chocolate whey protein powder, 1 Tbs. heaped unsweetened cocoa powder, 2 very good pinches of sea salt (we use Celtic), a dash of vanilla, Nustevia extract powder or Truvia to taste (probably 3-4 tsp of Truvia or 3-5 good shakes of Nustevia) and ½ tsp. of extra virgin coconut oil.
3. Pour boiling water into the blender up to the one cup mark. Turn on to low.
4. Add scant 3/4 tsp. Glucomannan powder while blender is running then turn to high and blend for a minute and a bit.
5. Now go for the right consistency by drizzling in more boiling water until mixture resembles a hot fondue consistency rather than a mayonnaise consistency. We often use up to half a cup more of the boiling water a little at a time. This takes away any grittiness or texture issues and makes it as smooth as silk. You haven’t blended enough if your texture is at all chalky. Add more boiling water and keep on a blending.
6. Taste and re flavor until your taste buds dance. You might need more sweetener or a little more sea salt or even more chocolate or vanilla. It should be a deep, soul nurturing taste, you may need to add more of all the flavors. Don't leave it bland.
7. Pour into a double walled mug (like a coffee or tea mug that keeps things hot). You'll want to slowly savor this. It’s not as good cold and you want it steaming until the last mouth full. You can choose to eat it by the spoonful or skewer berries and dunk … mmmm. (makes a hot date night with your hubby after the children are in bed!)
