Planning a cookout tomorrow? Here are some THM Tips!
No need to stress out about how to stay on plan. A cookout is the perfect meal to really indulge in S foods and desserts like this beautiful Strawberry Black Forest Cherry Trifle.. and here’s the link if you missed the post for this incredible recipe we put up a few days ago.http://mrscriddleskitchen.com/strawberry-black-forest-trifle/ If you are not a baker, Cheesecake Berry Crunch (page 373) is a huge crowd pleaser and so easy and quick to whip up.
Notice we started with dessert ideas – that’s the THM way Ha Ha. For the main meal - juicy burgers of course! Who needs buns when you can burgers smeared with mayo and mustard and topped with sautéed onions and mushrooms? Yum! Or if you do prefer a bread item with your burger, enjoy them inside Joseph’s pitas or make one of the bread recipes from the book. The following are the bread recipes that work best with burgers, Marcy’s Cheesy Rolls (page 271), Golden Flat Bread (page 270), Basic Sandwich Buns (page 269) or Oopsie Rolls (page 268). If you are not a burger fan, marinated, grilled chicken is always delicious.
Now for side item ideas. Cauli Potato Salad (page 363) is a big winner at all our family cook outs and you can make that ahead of time, it only tastes better the next day. Or before your cook out, make up double or even quadruple batches of the Green Fries (page 357). Our children go wild over those and how much healthier are they than the usual potato chips that go on children’s plates? Another favorite with children and adults alike are the Crunch Cheese Crackers (page 395). Use the oven version to make up larger batches and make sure to brown them slightly if you are seeking that crunchy side to your burger. Any non-starchy veggie seasoned with your favorite spices and drizzled in oil then cooked on the grill also makes a perfect S side - think zucchini, yellow squash, eggplant or okra.
Have a great day with your families tomorrow. We sure will. And while we all eat wonderful food (and drink our Good Girl Moon Shine of course), let’s take some time to remember those brave men and women who gave their lives for our country so we can live free and celebrate!
