Let’s talk blood pressure. This topic is close to my heart because the worry about it for my husband used to keep me up at night. I shared in the Trim Healthy Mama book how Charlie used to have high blood pressure, partly hereditary, partly diet. Even medication failed to bring it down into healthy readings. After six years on the Trim Healthy plan, his BP is no longer a problem.
The medical community still pushes the notion that to obtain healthy blood pressure one should eat a low fat diet; steer well away from red meat and cheese, yada yada. Ha! My husband loves his fatty meals. But he also eats his healthy carbs, no food group left out! He has maintained his loss of close to fifty pounds but he didn’t lose it then maintain it by skimping on fat!
My husband is fifteen years older than I am – he is now 58 but many aspects of his health are now better than a decade or two ago. There is great hope for people to come off their medicines - to gain vibrant health – even better health as they age. God willing, I want to keep him around for a long time and I am so thankful to our creator for his word. Once we threw all the fad diet books out and looked to what the Bible said about health and diet – miracles happened. – Pearl.
Here are some recent posts from the Trim Healthy Mama community about blood pressure improvements:
Cindy Y: “I'm 52 and started THM on February 22, 2014. I've lost 28 lbs., and my A1C went from 7.1 to 5.3; my cholesterol from 235 to 147; and my triglycerides from 400 to 193! My blood pressure is now in the low to normal range. I'm going back to the doctor in 6 months, and I'm sure hoping I can reduce or get off some of my meds! THM really works!”
Debra S: “Yes!!! I had to throw my bp meds away because I was getting dizzy and found out I was having low blood pressure episodes! I did add exercising to my eating plan as well which also helped. I am diabetic and have cut my insulin levels in half too and have lost 35 lb.s!”
Angela P: “I am completely off blood pressure medicine now. I went to a Dr. appt today with my gyn and my blood pressure was 126/68. I still monitor it, but I am so thankful to be off meds!”
Dorothy D: “My mom has had dramatic improvements in her blood pressure since she started THM with us since the end of March. She takes her blood pressure everyday & it has been getting better & better.”
Jackie J: “I am 54 years old and have been on THM since mid March. I have noticed that my BP has been a little lower lately. I am also very hopeful that I can eventually get off my BP medication. I have lost about 35 pounds (part of that on Weight Watchers) but I have seen a drastic drop in my cholesterol levels and in the "fatty liver" numbers.”
