* Konjac Foods brand of gluccie, works faster than Now brand for thickening puddings etc. The Now brand will work but takes a little longer and obtaining a smooth texture takes more tweaking. The Konjac Foods brand of glucomannan powder is available at netrition.com. Maybe give it a try when you run out of the other brand.
*The cocoa powder that Aldi sells tastes awful in our recipes. Try a different brand if you’ve been using that and your chocolate desserts taste odd. We love Aldi for so many other foods they carry inexpensively, not for their cocoa.
*Some THMs are discovering they prefer Nustevia Pure Extract powder over Truvia both taste wise and for how it makes them feel (no bloating issues). Serene only uses Nustevia extract while Pearl uses both with no issues.
* iherb.com has a great deal on one pound of Nustevia pure extract powder. It works out to be an extremely cheap price per ounce and would be well over a year’s worth of sweetener. Our tip is to put it in a shaker with small holes and use extremely small amounts at first, taste, tweak and shake in a little more as needed. One good downward shake equals about 1 tsp Truvia.
*If you have a tendency to overdo cheese, Costco has a fantastic raw cheese that can add a lot of flavor without excess calories. It is called Kirkland Pecorino Romano and is a raw sheep’s cheese so extremely healthy. Purchasing this brand may help you out since a very little goes a long way and small amounts can even be used with Fuel Pulls. It costs more than regular cheese up front but will last a lot longer. Great for Serene’s new Transformer Cheese Sauce/Soup and can be grated then sprinkled over eggs, egg white scrambles and salads etc for boosts of flavor and living enzymes.
*If you are having more trouble feeling full after E meals than with S meals, try adding a whey based Fuel Pull smoothie like the “Big Boy” or “Fat Stripping Frappa.” That should top you right off.
*Yep still some errors in the first printing of the book… sorry. ThePanbread (p 266), recipe calls for 1 cup egg whites. Special Occasion Chocolate Cake (p 384), calls for ½ cup cocoa powder and Ginger Snaps (p 389), call for at least 3 tsp of ginger powder and several good shakes of Nustevia or 6-8 tsp of Truvia.
If your blender breaks (Pearl’s did over the weekend) you can make puddings and pancake mix in your food processor. Just figured that out.
*Tried our Egg White Wraps yet? So versatile and will hold up to any fillings you can dream up. We’ve played with them a lot lately and found out that 1/8 cup of psyllium husk powder work better than 3 Tbs along with the egg whites as mentioned in the book. The 1/8 cup is a little less than 3 Tbs and makes the mix easier to spread on your griddle or non stick fry pan. They make great soft tacos, perfect for Fuel Pull and E fillings and oh so good for S style burritos. We get about 6 medium sized wraps from a batch which can be two or three servings depending on how hungry you are.
*You may be up later in the evenings during this busy Christmas season, wrapping presents or arriving home from evenings of shopping. The later you stay up, the more you’ll want to eat at night, that’s the way it goes. So don’t allow all your nights to be late ones but when it happens, try eating science smart foods in later hours like our puddings, hot custards or any Fuel Pull dessert or snack. These are better ideas than high cal foods that you won’t have a chance to burn while you sleep. But of course, any on plan foods are way better than off plan foods so give yourself some leeway too. We absolutely want you to enjoy your life as a THM. Hot chocolate is nice late at night made with 1Tbs Cocoa powder, unsweetened almond milk, plan approved sweetener to taste, a pinch of sea salt and a dash of heavy cream.
