Have you read chapter 11? That will give you an idea on when and how to switch up. There is no right or wrong. Fuel Pull snacks are the best ones to lose weight but some E and S ones are also good now and then. How long have you been doing the plan?

Hello. I've been on plan with my family now since Jan. 3. I have put on about 25 pounds these last 5 years probably due to the stress of multiple 2nd trimester miscarriages and hormone issues. I've been tested and my iron/ferritin was at 1 and all my hormones are low or off. My thyroid is normal. I am going to take progesterone but not sure what to do about the rest.
My daughters and I are enjoying learning this new way of eating. And hubby is playing along too. My two youngest kiddos had to be put on crossovers because they started loosing weight. Oops! Crossovers really work! Great for them, but not for me. I wondered why weight accumulated these past 5 years on all of us while eating our whole foods, organic diet. Just want to make sure we're on track.
I've lost 8 pounds in 4 weeks, have 18 more to go. We tried the FP Cycle and both daughters lost 2 pounds but I did not loose. We did it for one week. We are trying to do several S days and then a day an a half of E and then a FP and then back to S. Is this sufficient for weight loss? Or do we need to incorporate more FP days? We eat mostly FP snacks. It seems to be coming off very slow. And I have not cheated. We are doing SPEW or something similar 2-3 times a week. If I go a week or longer without loosing a pound, then what? Wonder what else I could do to speed up weight loss? Should we try another FP Cycle?
Another question. Nearing 40, I have noticed my bones seem to hurt. For instance if I sit cross -legged, I can't just unfold my legs and get up. I have to slowly unfold them and let them set for a minute before I can get up. I did not eat "fat" from my teens until just 5 years ago when I learned there are "good" fats. Will bone loss be reversed with this style of eating along with plenty of exercise. I'm interested to see if the exercise helps. I was an athlete until I married and had children so always had plenty of exercise growing up.
So thankful for your book! Did I hear Meadow was working on TH for Teens? My daughters would enjoy that. We have read Above Rubies for 7 years, since my first miscarriage, and enjoy all your music.

I'm dealing with this right now too, THM book got me started on the hormone investigation, and I also read "what your dr may not tell you about pre-menopause" which is a really informational book about hormones and using progesterone. After my last miscarriage everything they tested me for was low. At the moment I am taking chlorophyll (for anemia) and vitex and progesterone cream, in addition to multi vites and such. www.beeyoutiful.com has a lot of informational articles too even if you order from somewhere else.

Please share more about chlorophyll for anemia! You can PM me. I struggle with anemia terribly. I found a liquid supplement that is helpful . Thankful in advance for any additional info!

Joyfulmama - welcome.
First things first - eight pounds in four weeks is a lot! Please don't expect more than that. After a big loss like that your body will naturally reset, it won't want to let go every single week. Don't stress it, as we write in the book, often loss comes in spurts - big loss, no loss, no loss, little loss, medium loss - big loss again. All those are fine and to be expected.
Did you post up your fuel cycle menu here? I could have a look at it to see if you did it correctly but your body simply may have wanted to hold on that week and not let go. The cycle is supposed to be for two weeks though.
Just relax and let all this happen at it's own pace. YOu won't lose as easily as your daughters, you are older, more insulin resistant so please don't compare your losses to theirs. Let it happen slowly. Eighteen more pounds will go, that is so doable but don't look at THM as a way to get weight off fast - it was not designed for that but to flourish your health and take you slowly to your healthiest weight.
Having said that - be careful about doing constant heavy S meals - meaning don't pile cheese, cream cheese or nuts onto every meal. don't overdo cream in your coffee. Sometimes enjoy lots of fats, sometimes enjoy less, sometimes be more simple with your fats and use olive oil on your salad with chicken rather than topping with all the fatty toppings we can enjoy sometimes.
On your S days, still incorporate Fuel Pull snacks. Don't do S for all your snacks but still enjoy them here and there. Change things up. If you want to do full days for your fuel sources, you can but you can freestyle if that is a more enjoyable life for you. Most of us get more enjoyment out of feestyling but if that throws you off plan the sure - be more structured.
I am surprised they did not give you a transfusion with that level of ferritin. Yes, chloropyll is good for low iron but the best thing I found to raise my ferritin level was taking 10 dessicated liver tabs per day. Worked wonders. Plenty of good brands out there that are not too expensive, look for ones from Argentina where all cows are grass fed.

Sorry, I just saw where you say you already eat fuel pull snacks so dismiss my first post about that.
And yes, over time good fats and more protein should help your bones. Make sure your vitamin D levels are adequate for your bones too.

Thank you for your clarification and encouragement! I'm not Discouraged but naturally you tend to think you are doing something wrong when the weight loss stops or slows. The only way Ive ever been able to loose weight is by cutting portions and lots of exercise, usually running. Its weird eating fat and being satisfied and loosing weight. But I love it! It's been fun switching up S, E, and FP meals and doing shorter more intense exercise. We'll never go back to eating sugar & starch! It was so encouraging to read how your DH lost so much weight over time. I'm hopeful that my DH will loose his 30 lbs over time too. He's in no hurry but is enjoying seeing the results. He's lost 4 pounds, though refuses to use Stevia in his coffee. He's a good sport though about all the rest. Three of my family members cannot eat gluten so I appreciate all your grain-free recipes. I'm hopeful my naturopathic doctor will be able to help me get all my hormones back on track. I've had my iron monitored for 3 years and it seems my body uses every bit it takes in. With my ferritin being 1, I ended up in the ER even though I was being monitored by my OB. I have some desecrated liver but I need to figure out where to buy capsules because I got the powder. Yuck! I'll try to see if this works better than my iron in capsules. I was taking a tablespoon a day in a couple bites of yogurt. Last time I was tested my iron had come up 3 points and my red blood cells had normalized. It seems to rise very slowly especially when I have such a long way to go. I think my ferritin came up to 3. We haven't been able to conceive in three years. Our FP week was mostly salmon, tuna, spinach, FP shakes, FP chicken dinners. Didn't realize we were supposed to do it for two weeks. Oops. We did use mozzarella cheese but I think you are right about my body just not wanting to let go of more weight. I 'll try to be patient! Can't imagine having to eat crossovers to keep from being too thin. How long have you been eating on this plan? Looking forward to long term health benefits for my family! Thank you for how you've blessed my family, my best friend and her family, my parents and grandparents. I'm Sharing your book with all who will hear. Reading your book again to make sure I didn't miss anything!

Good news that your husband is along for the ride too. How about letting him try coconut sugar in his coffee. It is best not to use it as a chief sweetener on our plan but some in his coffee may taste a lot more like sugar. It has a GI of 35 while table sugar and honey are in the fifties and sixties. So little things like that can help. But if he still doesn't like it, overall, his diet wil be much better so we won't sweat that.
I am still not understanding your Fuel Cycle week. Did you do three deep S days limiting all diary, nuts etc and relying on very basic fats from eggs, meat, coconut oil or olive oil. did you focus on greens as sides rather than the other sides we usually allow during regular S days. Then, when you did the two fuel pull days, did you keep your meat protein to 3 oz? That is important for those particular days? Then you did two E days, including some Fuel PUll snacks?
Can you give me an example day of one of your Fuel PUll days in that cycle? I think I need details to see if you are doing it right.
But yes, be patient. Stay the course, your loss has been great.
I would hate dessicated liver powder. The tabs are big but much easier to swallow psycholigically. AT a ferritin level of 3, you are still so depleted. I was at 3 once and could hardly function. I had major hair loss and heart palpatations every night and sometimes during the day. I could barely exercise, it would wipe me out. Don't over do exercise until you can get your ferritin up.

So I guess my question simplified is this: When trying to lose weight are you supposed to truly randomize?

No, you can do either. YOu can be structured or you can randomize. It is all about what suits the family best. What do you feel you can stay on for life? What makes things feel like this is not a diet but something to be enjoyed your life through. So long as you are incorporating all the fuels each week, the rest is up to you.

Unfortunately I did not write down exactly what we ate but we did keep to deep S the first three days. We did have a whole can of salmon or tuna at a time. Oops again! And lots of greens but also lots of broccoli. We love broccoli. We did not have nuts, yogurt, cream cheese, peanut butter but we did have mozzarella cheese.
For FP we ate too much meat again and did not have gluccomanam yet to have with our meals or snacks. We used guar gum because its what we had , but I know it's not as good for us so we won't be using it again.
How much is too much grass-fed cream in coffee? We like to use a big splash, less than a quarter cup though. Too much for deep S? We used to use a whole cup of raw milk in our one large cup of coffee a day! Not drinking raw milk has been hard but so worth it if it means staying trim and healthy. Maybe one day we can have it again!
E was hard. I cannot figure out how to add quinoa back in. So we didn't have any quinoa or brown rice, but did have oats. Can we have quinoa or oats and a piece of sprouted bread? And a 1/2 piece of peach or green apple in the same meal? I guess that's what you mean when you say bring on the glucose for a full E day. Ha ha! We use organic frozen peaches from Costco for E smoothies and apple for an E snack or to go along with E lunch or breakfast.
Next time we will do the FP cycle for two weeks and make some small changes. And I'll post our menu. Thanks so much for talking this through with us!!
How long did it take for your ferritin to come up using the desecrated liver? Do you remember what a normal number is? I do have to take it easy on the exercise or I pass out. Learned this the hard way. That 's been what was frustrating these last five years trying to loose weight because I tired so easily.

The cream - a big splash? Hmmm that could be quite a bit. I think 2 Tbs max should be enough. Cream is very easy to overdo.
Remember you can have raw milk in your diet if you turn it into kefir. That cuts down the sugars significantly.
No, you don't do quino or oats and a piece of bread and then a half piece of fruit. That is overkill. Don't do the bread plus the grain. Fill up more on non starchy veggies and make sure to get your protein. Right now your body is just more used to that many carbs. It will adjust and you will find you won't need all that. Try to focus on one carb source at a time. AFter the meal do a Fuel PUll rather than a piece of fruit if you have already had a good dose of carbs. You can do an apple or a peach as your carb like in the Apple Wardolf cottage cheese salad or have them as a snack with cottage cheese but tacking fruit onto the end of an E meal can prevent weight loss. Of course it is fine now and then but don't do it as a habit.
You need to get your ferritin level up to 40 if possible. It took me months to get my level out of the gutter but it is better to use the dessicated liver supps and green drinks than to take iron itself.
