I had bloodwork done today for my husbands company, for insurance, and my fasting glucose was 119. Should I be concerned about that? I had spinach and Mexican Noodles for supper and then later in the evening a muffin in a mug with greek yo and strawberries. This morning I didnt even brush my teeth so it wouldnt effect my count. And they checked it at 9:30, so supper and snack should have been gone by then. My cholesterol was down from October, when we had it done last. My triglycerides down, LDL still high, weight down (yay THM). I just was concerned about the glucose number. Thanks, Michelle

That is a high number. However I would wait, shed some more weight and then retest. Some people have something called the Dawn phenomenon where they might be fine two hours after a meal but their morning stays high. Leaning out will help this but it does signal some insulin resistance.
I would try not to eat too late at night. In your situation, if I was to eat later than about 8 pm, I would only eat snacks that contained gluccie like the custard or a pudding. Muffin in a Mug is more of a heavy snack to eat at night. I would save that for an afternoon snack or a breakfast.
When was the last time you had your morning glucose checked?

I will have to try to find my paperwork. I had a physical and bloodwork in October. That is what motivated me to buy your book and start working on my body. My A1C was getting close to the pre-diabetic numbers and that scared me. I was a little over 185 (not sure how much since I refused to get on the scale. After I did THM for a couple weeks and noticed some slimming I weighed 184. I am now 170. I am 5'8.5") I have been experiencing some low blood sugar symptoms, shakeyness especially, so I am trying to incorporate a few more E snacks, but the E meals are hard for me (years of Nourishing Traditions and real fats, against the low-fat craze, makes it hard). I got some nice apples from Azure so I have that with 1 t of peanut butter, but I almost feel blah after that like it is too much sugar. Should I only do 1/2 apple instead of a whole one? Should I stay away from fruit right now and have something else for E? I do love the Waldorf Salad and feel fine after eating that with the apples, probably because the cottage cheese is more volume than the 1 t of peanut butter.

Yes, I would stick to one half unless you are having it with more protein like the cottage cheese. The warldolf salad is a great choice. A grapefruit and cottage cheese is a nice E snack idea too. Or if you want to keep fruit in, have a small whey smoothie along side it.
Your loss has been real good. Sometimes morning fasting blood sugar numbers will not budge until one is very close to goal weight and even then they can be iffy for a while. I do think eating heavy at night (even with THM foods can cause a worse reading though) My brother has monitored his morning BG a lot and he finds that to be true.
But my husband's morning BG is now perfect and his used to be quite high. It took some years to get better. None of this is a quick fix. The body takes seven years to completely renew itself remember.

Wow, thanks for the info. I will keep plugging along. Im going to be training this spring for a 500 mile bike ride. What would you suggest I do while doing long bike rides? At the event they will have frequent water breaks with cookies, granola bars, apples and bananas. Im sure there wont be much protein. Should I bring something along? I know I will need plenty of energy foods, but I dont want it to mess with my insulin, either. I thought about buying Dr. Schulze superfood bars since they are portable. Maybe travel peanut butter packets and I think someone even sells travel protein powder packs. I am trying to prepare myself for when I have to do the longer rides for training and dont want my blood sugar out of wack. Thanks.

You'll need protein on your bike rides. Yes some carbs (more than usual) but don't overdo. A mixture of both will be good being careful not to choose things which will spike your blood sugar. Travel protein packs might be great. Apples maybe, be careful about too many bananas. What are the stats on Dr Schulze's bars?

The apple bar has 3 g fat, 19 g carb, 7 g protein. The energy bar has 1 g fat, 34 g carb, 6 g protein. There are Clif bars with 4-6 g fat, 40 g carb, 10-11 protein. What should I look for? I dont want a bunch of trash, so that is why I was thinking Dr. Schulze. But will any old energy/protein bar from GNC or walmart work? I want to steer clear of soy as the protein source. Do you have any good suggestions? These travel so well is why I was thinking of them.

Thank you Pearl and Family. This helps me a lot. I will be biking 55-79 miles per day for 8 days and with this new way of eating I want to make sure Im doing my body right. I would probably have tried to stay away from carbs and ran out of energy. I'll check into those bars. I got some electrolytes from Alacer called ElectroMix that is sweetened with stevia I can bring. Should I eat crossovers for meals? Or E for breakfast, ? for lunch, crossover for supper? Im still reading up on the hormones. I will be 45 in a little over a week. I started using progesterone cream and started taking DIM to help with bad estrogen. Not sure if I should do an estriol cream. I normally have 25 day cycles, ovulate around day 16-18. Last month had 29, this month 25. If I have 25 day cycles from now until the ride I will be on day 8 and out of the woods, cycle wise. If I have a couple long cycles between here and then I will be on my cycle for the bike ride. I am SO hoping that does NOT happen.

I don't even know how you would do it on your cycle. I lay low on mine and don't even do my little work outs. I would eat crossovers if I were you for that week. Those are huge distances. You'll defenitely need refueling.
