Some Mamas do not need to lose weight but want to do our plan for health reasons. Others have weight to lose but have family members on the skinny side and want to know how THM can work for both issues. We designed Crossovers for this purpose.
We had a great answer to this issue over at our facebook page from Andrea, one of our awesome THM's. She shares how she practically uses crossovers for various family needs:
"I am the only one in our home using the principles to lose. I have three-my husband, daughter, and oldest son-that wanted to and have gained weight in the last month. I want to share that this in NO small feat for my son and husband.
My husband weighed the exact same for about 20 years. In the last few years he put about 5 pounds on, but has longed to be able to gain weight. He has a speedy, speedy metabolism. Well, he is SUPER excited as in just 4 weeks he has gained 5 pounds!!!! That may not sound like much, but for someone who has tried to gain weight for decades, that is huge!!
After reading about ectomorphs and body types in THM, I decided to try the reverse on him and our children. I have added in 3 snacks and always went over the fat allowance. There is also more protein going into each meal and snack. I make almost every snack and meal a crossover for all of them. But it is all healthy, nourishing food, that still keeps their insulin levels regulated. They don't go overboard eating 4 pieces of bread at once or 3 pieces of dessert. Just sensible, healthy crossovers. We are all using Stevia and all like it. I don't really understand all the science of it, maybe Pearl can explain that part more thoroughly.
Our daughter was a few pounds underweight and we just wanted to make sure she didn't waste away. She very easily gained 5 pounds and feels better energy-wise as her blood sugar levels are more stable. She has balanced out and isn't gaining any more though she continues to have snacks and more protein.
Our growing 13 year old son has gained a total of 8 pounds in the last month!!! He is so very happy about that as everyone is always calling him a beanpole.
He is 5' 10" and has wanted to fill out some.
We also have an almost 5 year old precious boy that we adopted as a baby. He was born addicted to crack-cocaine that his birthmother smoked every single day of her pregnancy. He is VERY full of energy and has a hard time focusing though he is very smart and adorable. He has also had stomach issues that have been mostly relieved by keeping him on an almost gluten-free diet. What I love about this way of eating for him, was learning how to use stevia to give him healthy sweet things, as he doesn't need any more stimulants. His weight is perfect, but I love knowing that I am feeding him in a way that nourishes his little body and brain (fish and coconut oil), while keeping his insulin levels nice and level. Also, since he and I were already eating almost 100% gluten-free, most of the recipes in here just work perfectly.
As a practical example, when I feed our children the Choco Pudding, I still sweeten it with stevia, but will put a blob of peanut butter or coconut oil and a puddle of cream on top. So yummy, but still very health promoting.
For breakfast, while I just eat eggs with sautéed veggies and mushrooms, they will all have a good portion of cheese on their eggs, a piece or two of toast with either peanut butter or cream cheese, and a cup of hot herbal tea with cream in it.
For an afternoon snack I often have them eat a banana or another piece of fresh fruit with a medium handful of nuts.
For smoothies, I'll put an extra egg yolk or two and a larger scoop of coconut oil.
In a dinner like Crabby Patties, they will eat theirs sandwiched in a piece of sourdough or whole grain bread.
So, I am losing (though slowly as I am a lovely endomorph), they are all gaining. THM is SO, SO AWESOME!! It has blessed our whole family!"
