This topic is close to my heart because the worry about it for my husband used to keep me up at night.
I have shared here before how Charlie used to have terrible blood pressure, partly hereditary, partly diet. Even medication failed to bring it down into healthy readings.
After five years on the Trim Healthy plan, his BP is no longer a problem. But I can’t help but tell you why I am grinning this afternoon. My husband just called me after his visit to the Red Cross to donate blood. He informed that I have a husband with “perfect blood pressure readings.” They always check before allowing someone to donate. It always makes me deliriously happy to have it verified by health care professionals. When nurses now comment on what great BP readings he has, I just think of how ironic that is. Little do they know what his readings used to be.
The medical community still pushes the notion that to obtain healthy blood pressure one should eat a low fat diet; steer well away from red meat and cheese, yada yada. Ha! My husband loves his fatty meals. But he also eats his healthy carbs, no food group left out! He has lost fifty pounds slowly over five years and is now at a perfect weight for his build and height. He didn’t get there by skimping on fat!
So even though it is a rainy, dreary afternoon here in Tennessee, know that I am smiling. There is great hope for people to come off their medicines - to gain vibrant health – even better health as they age. My husband is fifteen years older than me – he is now 57 but many aspects of his health are now better than a decade or two ago. God willing, I want to keep him around for a long time and I am so thankful to our creator for his word. Once we threw all the fad diet books out and looked to what the Bible said about health and diet – miracles happened.
