I'm reading your book and have a question. I've been eating like a "Tess" for about 4 years now. I've been hypoglycemic my whole life. I know how to avoid that horrible crash but my hardest meal is breakfast. I'm not sure I can do an 'E' breakfast at all, too many carbs in the morning (even soaked oatmeal) make me feel horrible and I get the mid-morning sugar crash. My best breakfast is eggs. But if I eat fried eggs and breakfast meat only (my husband's favorite) I'm left feeling hungry. I end up eating fruit or toast in addition, just to sate my hunger. I'm pregnant at the moment, but prior to conception I was about 30lbs overweight.
I'm wondering if I'm going to have to use an S-helper every morning (the struggle with crashes is especially bad when I'm nursing)? Do you have any insight or ideas?

I look forward to reading some of the answers on this one! I have similar experiences. I have found that the muffin in a mug works well for me (almond, flax, egg). Other mornings I like the big boy smoothie. The protein seems to help my blood sugar from plunging. Let us know when you find some that work for you!

I'll be waiting to see responses too as I have this problem. I tried the pancakes and loved them but was feeling a little jittery an hour later.

i want the glucose monitor soon just to know what my numbers are. hoping to get one soon. i find that having half an onion and a handful of mushrooms all carmelized and yummy along with 2 eggs and half an avocado is a good breakfast for me (2 eggs just won't cut it for me either). i have 1/2 cup blueberries with my pancakes and that seems to be going well, then a snack within the 2-3 hour window or a fuel pull type sooner (think frappa).

I've struggled with this some myself. It's like an art form to fill me up and keep me full. Adding veggies to eggs and breakfast meat will help. They have filling fiber content. E meals tend to not keep me so full either because it's harder to get enough protein, and there's not much filling fat either. I usually will pair egg white scrambles or whey protein smoothies to my E breakfasts. Remember you can always have a Fuel Pull snack in between meals if you're feeling hungry, or you can tag one on to the end of your meals if you don't feel full enough. I often need a snack after E meals before the 3 hours are up. I have noticed though that my blood sugar is becoming more stable as I've been eating the THM way. You may need some more S Helpers, and that's OK. They will still aid in weight loss. You could try things like adding more veggies, or adding more protein and fuel pull snacks into your meals. If you still are having crashes though, S Helpers might be a really good idea.

Interesting, thank you everyone who responded! The onions and mushrooms + avocado sounds really nice! I imagine that would be enough food for me. I wish avocados weren't so expensive though! Adding veggies to breakfast, I've never really done that much but probably ought to. If I made a breakfast casserole with eggs, cheese, onions, mushrooms and spinach, would that be 'S'? I guess I'd have to leave out the milk, or use cream instead?

Yes, that would be a good S meal. You could use some cream diluted with water, to keep it less calorie dense. Frittatas and omelets are another good way to have veggies and eggs. I love to have some fried eggs on top of sauteed spinach/kale with onions and sometimes mushrooms and bacon pieces. Use whatever seasonings you like to give things some extra yummy flair too.
