I have a large bag of the powdered stevia leaf--just the dried, herb. Will this work in place of the Truvia and other recommended sweeteners? Has anyone tried this?

If it is the actual powdered herb plus nothing else, it should be on plan. But it is also green in color! It would nor work in place of truvia. You might be able to use a little in tea, but it may also be bitter...

You can mix the powdered stevia with erythritol to make a homemade version of Truvia if you need the bulk in a recipe. Otherwise just use a few shakes or 1/16 tsp at a time, taste test to get it to the sweetness you desire. Remember to make it a bit too sweet if you are baking because stevia's sweetness dulls a bit with baking. In other words you should be able to use it like you would any other pure stevia extract. Like rebekahrl said, it might have more of a bitter or even anise type after taste but I kind of like it, I didn't like it the first few times I tried it but now I like most pure stevia products.

Let me know if you try it what you think. It's been a long time since I tried just the pure herb. (I use the white extract for almost everything)

I will give it a try. I'd hate to waste it (I bought it to sweeten up homemade toothpaste, but homemade toothpaste didn't work for me).
