I'm sure this question has been asked before & having done THM for over 2 years (on & off) you'd think I already knew this..... but, how much protein (about how many grams would be a minimum) do I need to have with a meal or a snack? Is 5 g too few for a snack? Should I have a bit more protein with an E meal or snack because of the carbs? I just want to make sure, esp with my snacks, that I'm getting enough protein. Thanks...

Actually it is very good to shoot for 10-20 grams protein for meals and snacks, both.

Thanks. I think I get 20 in my meals but probably need more in my snacks...

20 grams protein for each of 3 meals and 2 snacks will give you 100 grams. Makes it easy to reach that goal by figuring it that way.

For THM there is no number for protein in a meal or snack, but since we always keep protein in mind your overall diet will have plenty An example I like is Fotato Soup, pretty light on protein and you can add some if you want, but you don't have to. But if you are mixing it up well you might have a shake with cottage cheese and protein powder and get 35 grams so it kind of evens out. A bit of protein is a good idea with E snacks for sure to help keep blood sugars stable and some ladies will find they must add more to things like oatmeal to make it three-ish hours

Yes, the E meals are what I am most concerned about as I tend to have low blood sugar symptoms a couple of hours after eating an E meal (esp breakfast).... so I think my sugar spikes high and then bottoms out. I have had GD with other pregnancies and I don't think I've ever really gone back to normal blood sugar levels after delivery except when I'm eating really well (THMing consistently). So should I aim for about 20 grams or more of protein with my E meals or snacks.... and I'm thinking stay away from E breakfasts?

You might want to do some S helpers or light Es (maybe 1/2 E fuel serving) or even Crossovers and plenty of protein with them. In pregnancy I personally did shoot for 80-100 grams of protein a day. You do want some carbs for a developing babe for sure.

The testimony in the EZine #5 I think it is. Shared a GD pregnancy story. It put a lightbulb in my mind of how I was in pregnancy. I think the S helpers will be key for me too if I find myself expecting again. This might help you.

Yes, Susie, I read that story which was helpful and encouraging. I really enjoy the ezines and am looking forward to the next one.
I do think I'm going to need more SHs this time. I'm shooting for 80-100 g of protein a day. We all ate dinner out yesterday and I didn't stay on plan. Two+ hours after eating I checked my blood glucose and it was 196...yikes. Thankfully, it was under 100 this AM. That was a reminder to me that I need to be even more consistent..... no more cheat meals out. I can still go out with my family and stay on plan!
